Background
Network Journal is a semi-annual academic publication documenting the initiatives and research within the Rectors' Conference of Colleges for Public Service network.
Challenge
The publication needed to engage a broad audience while reflecting the modern, dynamic nature of the academic network. The layout had to seamlessly accommodate a wide variety of content formats—ranging from quick event updates and news tidbits to long-form case studies and academic articles.
Action
The editorial layout was designed around clear visual hierarchy, purposeful white space, and authentic imagery.
Layout Architecture
A flexible three-column layout designed with generous white space to enhance legibility and provide visual breathing room.
Minimalist Typography
Open Sans and Museo Slab paired to create a neutral, functional hierarchy—keeping the typography "invisible" so the editorial content takes center stage.
Authentic Photography
Documentary-style event photography featuring real network members, selected to maintain authenticity and avoid generic stock or AI-generated imagery.
Conceptual Cover System
A distinct cover layout reserved for abstract, conceptual visuals that highlight the core theme of each issue.
